About hundreds of environment activists of South East Asia Greenpeace doing demonstration declining the use of coal because it has been changing the climate globally.
That action is took place on Kuta beach, Bali, Monday (June 4th, 2007). Those Greenpeace activists bring a huge dragon monster statue and thousands of balloons informing about CO2. Those black and white balloons are the symbol that describing about the spurt of CO2 that come out from the mouth of the dragon monster.
This action took place in Nusa Dua, Bali, due to the Asia Coal Trans 2007 conference. The Greenpeace size up that Asia Coal Trans 2007 is an immoral conference.
“This conference has felled the society to the global destruction. We have been urging that conference to stop the use of coal,” said Nur Hidayati, the coordinator of South East Asia Greenpeace campaign member.
Kuta beach had chosen as a place to do demonstration, because it has being considered as a strategic place. Greenpeace puts their hope to be listened by the society from all other parts in the world that will visit Kuta beach.
“We are not doing any action in the coals conference location because without doubtful its security guard will head off this action”, said Nur.
Every year, about 25 billion tons of CO2 gases are released in the air. About 9 billion tons CO2 is come from the coal burning process.
The Coal Trans 2007 conference held at Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua. Its conference is opened by Rachmat Witoelar, The Minister of Environment. This conference is attended by 920 participants; most of them are coal businessman. They are coming from 36 countries, such as Indonesia, India, China and Japan.
