Today, AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) are announcing that they will be splitting their company in two. One division will handle the costly business of manufacturing microprocessors, while the other division will focus on the designing them.
AMD has had to take this dramatic movement so that they are able to maintain the battle with rival, Intel. AMD have also announced that they have received a fresh cash injection of $6 billion into their two new divisions, from two Abu Dhabi investment firms.
According to AMD, most of the money will be used to finance its new chip factory near Albany, N.Y., as well as upgrade the one that they already have in Dresden, Germany.
