ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series from AMD

AMD has just launched the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series GPUs for notebooks, delivering “up to twice” the gaming performance of previous generation mobile GPUs.

The new released chips include the high-end ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4800, balanced ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4600, and power saving ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series, all GPUs are based on 55nm production technology.

The new ATI Radeon products for laptops support Microsoft DirectX 10.1 technology, as well as full 1080p high-definition video playback, provided by the Unified Video Decoder 2. Furthermore, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series are the “first ever” mobile graphics solutions that have advanced hi-definition audio capabilities using HDMI with 7.1 digital surround sound and DisplayPort Audio.

Speaking about power efficiency, the new AMD’s GPUs feature ATI PowerXpress, ATI PowerPlay, and ATI Switchable Graphics technologies. Moreover, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4800 is the industry’s first laptop GPU to support GDDR5 memory technology, doubling the memory bandwidth of GDDR3 and GDDR4. Unfortunately, we have to wait until the first quarter of 2009 to buy the first notebook PCs with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series.
